New video: “Finding local beauty to combat child labor”

Monday, February 3rd, 2014

FairMail is a “proven business concept” that utilizes free resources to combat child labor. The only thing we need to succeed in is finding “local beauty”. This is captured by our teenage photographers with their cameras, after which they finance their own education with the sale of their fair trade images.

It sounds so easy, but where to look?

Everybody who likes taking pictures knows just how inspiring travelling to new places can be for your photography. Because the parents of the FairMail teenagers can’t afford to take their families on a holiday FairMail takes the teenagers to “off-the-beaten-track” destinations in Peru and India to take pictures. For example the trip to the North Peruvian Andes the Peruvian teenagers just returned from. Watch the video of the trip they made with 6 foreign photographers here:

Their best pictures taken during the trip will soon be available as stock photography, on-line and as printed greeting card, wall prints and other tailor made photography products which you can view here.

Are you interested to share the joy of taking pictures with our teenage photographers and help them out with their work? Then read more about FairMail’s photography trips here.

On Saturday the 22nd of February FairMail is opening its doors to people interested in FairMail’s photography trips. If you are interested to participate in this meeting which is held in Rosmalen, the Netherlands, contact us here.

Daring to ask “How can you help FairMail?”

Helping out FairMail

Helping out FairMail

Dare to Ask is a popular phenomenon in the Netherlands based on the idea that when people ask for what they truly want, the chances they will actually get it increases considerably. After all, there are plenty of people that are more than happy to help you along in realizing your dream. Imagine all the missed opportunities of people being happy to share exactly what you need for free, but not doing it because they didn’t have a clue you were looking for it. The scale of missed opportunities on a global level is huge! Dare to Ask makes “social surplus” visible and put it to good use.

In other words; why not share with FairMail what you don’t use and ask for what you could use that FairMail might have “lying around”? Below you can find a list of things FairMail could use that perhaps you can help us find:

– PR and Marketing advise. We could use the help of a professional PR agency to help us make our promotional activities more effective. We have a great story to tell, but how do we get it out there?

– Video of FairMail teenagers. On our new website (coming soon!) we want to include a personal video about each FairMail teenager on their personal profile page. Who would like to dive into their lives and tell their personal stories in short 1 minute videos?

Volunteer as photography trainer

Volunteer as photography trainer

– Volunteer Photography Trainers in Peru. The FairMail team in Peru is looking for enthusiastic volunteers with a passion for photography, who speak Spanish and have 6 weeks to give photography training in Peru. Do you know anyone looking for this enriching experience?

–  Television and media contacts. For our upcoming promotion tour with the two Peruvian FairMail teenagers we are looking for journalists and other media contacts in Germany, France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Switzerland.

– Things to do for our teenagers during Promotion tour. For our upcoming promotion tour with the two Peruvian FairMail teenagers we are looking for places to visit and people to guide us. Places that are interesting for the teenagers to see (schools, cities, landmarks), but also places where they can promote their cards (festivals, shops, fair trade towns). Do you live in Germany, France, The Netherlands, Belgium or Switzerland and would you like to help make this the teenagers’ trip of a life time, then please get in contact with us!

If you have any suggestions, please get in contact with us by clicking here.

Make your own FairMail mothersday card online

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

This Sunday 13th of May is mothersday in many countries of the world. This year you can surprise your mother with your own personalized FairMail mothersday card! Our teenage photographers in Peru and India made many pictures that represent the love for our mothers. You can choose from many different models on the Greetz website (click here for German) (click here for english). In a few simple steps you can choose the picture of your choice, design your card and write your own text. Greetz then prints and posts the card for you. If you make the card before 8pm this friday Greetz will deliver your card in time. Very easy and very nice to do!

Even more because in the inside of the card your mother will not only read jour sweet words, but also read the name, age and picture of the FairMail teenager who took the picture and earns money that way to finance his or her own education.

Below the teenage photographers tell how they celebrate mothersday in Peru and what their mothers mean to them:

French FairMail Promotional video

In order to explain how FairMail works to the employees of La Carterie the teenagers from Peru and India made a special French promotional video in which they tell their story in their best French! Have a look below:

A word from La Carterie’s CEO: Mr Olivier Draeger:

As part of La Carterie’s sustainable development program, it is very important for La Carterie to work with a partner like FairMail which proposes a concrete action to build a better world. “We have been very touched by FairMail project and its activities based on fairtrade” according to Olivier Draeger, CEO of La Carterie. “We think that this partnership will strengthen our knowledge and will enable us to share our mutual experiences. Our objective, from a business perspective, is to be an actor helping to decrease poverty.  We also aim to increase our employee’s awareness of the role and potential they have to contribute to society, thanks to their work”. La Carterie buys photos taken by teenagers to develop products such as greeting cards & calendars. 35% of the photo’s purchase price is directly transferred to teenagers for their education and housing.

New FairMail video

New FairMail video

In this latest video FairMail Peru photographer Elmer takes film makers Anna and Veronique back to the streets where he used to live and work.

The five minute video explains the hardships Elmer encountered in life when he was 8 years old, how he himself decided he wanted to make something of his life and how he grasped the opportunities FairMail gave him.

The video gives a great insight into the daily reality of some of FairMail’s teenage photographers. Thank you very much Anna Wilson and Veronica Hansen to for working with Elmer on this documentary.
