Record earnings for FairMail teenagers

With the export of the new card collection to the Netherlands FairMail’s teenage photographer acheived record earnings again over the past months.

In total FairMail’s 27 teenage photographers earned more then 7.500 euro’s in education money, packaging wage and health insurance. In average the teenagers in Peru earned 32% more then the local fair trade liveable wage and the Indian teenagers even 252% more the the local fair trade liveable wage! Since the beginning of FairMail a total of 24.787 euro was earned by the teenagers.

Big earners in Peru where David, Cinthia and Rosita. While in India Anil, Kaushal and Dhiraj did good business with their popular cards. On the new photographers pages you can now also see how much each teenager has earned with the sale of their cards over their whole career. Check it out!

FairMail moves to the big city

FairMail headquarters in the Netherlands moved to a new office in the capital of Amsterdam. Since the first of september both the storage space and the office are situated at the following address:

The move was necessary because the building out past office was in was being sold. The new office gives FairMail the space to grow and is better situated near our customers and institutions FairMail cooperates with.

The newest cards from FairMail Peru and FairMail India are now online and available! In the end of august a container carrying a 100.000 FairMail cards arrived in Rotterdam and are now finding their way to the FairMail selling points. Of course you can be one of the first to have the new FairMail cards by ordering them online in FairMail’s webshop (click here).

Do you also wonder how FairMail manages to turn econmically deprived teenagers into succesfull photografers? Then you really have to take a look at the new 5 minute video “The Making of FairMail India” now on youtube. FairMail pioneer Janneke Smeulders was followed with a camera when she set up FairMail India during three months.

In this video it becomes clear it is not always easy to trigger the creativity of mostly the girls in the Nagwa slum. Since the start things go a lot easier with young photographer and Michael Jackson fan Kaushal Kumar, who takes the viewer to his house and tells what he thinks about before taking pictures. Enjoy!

During the Paper & Convenience Show in Rosmalen last sunday,  FairMail won the de Dutch Card Award for the “most innovative card concept”. The jury consisting of sourcers of main stream chains such as V&D, Bruna and AKO, pointed to FairMail as winner because of the surprising artwork and the use of other paper materials. “Not only the combination of development, production and sales is innovative, but also the story behind  FairMail”, according to the jury.

The Dutch company FairMail is the first brand worldwide producing fair trade photo greeting cards with pictures made by Peruvian and Indian teenagers who’s name and faces are printed on the back of each card. They receive 50% of the profit of the sale of their cards to finance their education and housing. FairMail is fair trade certified by the Dutch Association of World Shops (DAWS).

New FairMail site goes live!

As our frequent visitors can see the FairMail website is completely renewed. The new site has a couple of exciting new options like:

  • A new photogallery showing the best pictures from our photographers which didn’t make it to a postcard. But these pictures are for sale digitally. Coming soon: the option to get the picture of your choice printed on a canvas for on the wall.
  • Voting for your favourite photograph. The most popoular photograph will be printed on a FairMail card every 3 months. Power to the people!
  • A new photographers page including even more information about the lives of the FairMail photographers including transparency about their career earnings.
  • The possibility to place content and pictures from the FairMail site on your social network site like Facebook or Flickr.
  • A new and improved web 2.0 webshop.
  • A Retail login section where shops can login in to place their FairMail orders.

Hartstikke uniek natuurlijk om met de FairMail tieners op stap te gaan door Peru. Maar natuurlijk heb je vragen over hoe dat dan precies werkt en wat je kunt verwachten. Ook ben je natuurlijk wel benieuwd wie er nog meer mee willen.

Daarom heeft FairMail twee informatieavonden ingepland voor de fotografiereizen. Op 16 oktober van 20.00 tot 22.00 en 24 oktober van 15.00 tot 17.00 krijg je meer informatie over de reizen van volgend jaar en kun je al je vragen stellen.
