(English) Photographer Cinthia builds her own future

IMG_0015Good news from Peru about  Cinthia! As one of the first FairMail photographers she has now grown to be a source of inspiration for the new generation of photographers who can see what they can acheive by taking great pictures for FairMail. With the 4335,= euro Cinthia earned with the sale of her cards she started a three year long course to become a tour guide. The last few FairMail photography trips she did her practical period with us to practice what she has learned so far.

Besides her education whe also used the money she earned to buy a watertank and build a new kitchen (see picture) for her family and to buy a computer and build a private bedroom for herself! So no longer does she have to share her bed with her sister. A nice idea now she is a young adult and no longer a teenager!

In May 2009 Cinthia turned 19 and thus ended her active career as a photographer for FairMail. But because of her talent, leadership and sense of responsility she got promoted to assistant manager of FairMail Peru. Due to the rapid growth of FairMail Peru our current manager Renato can use all the help he can get! Keep it up Cinthia, we are very proud of you!

Click here to directly send Cinthia an e-mail if you wish to congratulate her (and for her to practice her english!)

10.enero.12.mariaflor.moyobamba 041In July and August FairMail is organizing together with Commundo two adventurous photography trips to Northern Peru. Together with FairMail’s teenage photographers you will be travelling to the Peruvian Andes for 10 days loooking for pictures for the new card catalogue.

During the diverse trip you will be travelling through the dry desert coast and the high Andean mountain range where visits to cities, towns the rural countryside and nature are alternated. Every area has its own typical population and culture. Capturing the images that go with that is the goal of the trip. The destinations we visit are still hardly visited by tourists which guarantee authentic photography moments. In which it is your role to explain to the teenagers what kind of pictures the western consumers like to see on FairMail cards!

On the trip from the 24th of July untill the 14th of August there is still space for a few participants who want to join this unique experience. To get in contact with Commundo send an email to: info@commundo.nl. but be quick because there are only a few places left to fill in the small group!

(English) FairMail now also available in trendy Hubshop

HUB200

(English) Teenage photographer Yuli: The rising star from Peru

yuli2200

FairMail Peru has a new rising star in teenage photographer Yuli Silva Acuna. Just how did she do that? Well by taking some very succesfull pictures of STAR- fruits and STAR-flowers she sold more then 35.000 cards over the past 4 months, an absolute record for a FairMail teenager! Especially if you consider Yuli is only 16 years old!

Two of her pictures got selecte by a major Dutch retail chain for their Christmas cards, one for FairMail’s normal Christmas card set and two by a German  distributor. How much money Yuli will be making with these sales will be known next week when the 50% profit over the third quarter is calculated. But here earnings so far are sure to double at least!

yuli0200Yuli’s big dream at the moment is to study communication sciences at a private university in Trujillo, Peru. That seems interesting to her because she can keep learning about photography but also choose from other specialisations like business communication or graphic design. A 5 year study like that costs about 6.500 euro’s, so she is not quite there yet.

Yuli is one of the FairMail teenagers that live in El Milagro, the part of Trujillo right next to the huge garbage dump. Luckily she and her family aren’t working there anymore. Her father has a temporary contract in a mine about 8 hours away and can even invest in their house now. Her mother takes care of the home and tries to earn a few soles extra selling delicious « papa rellena’s » and « ceviche » in the weekends.

(English) Teenage photographer Sonu from India dies

sonu200A sad week for FairMail and for the inhabitants of Nagwa, Varanasi, India: Sonu died last Monda, the 4th of October…… He was a FairMail photographer from March 2009 until August 2010. He had been ill for many years (he suffered from chronic hepatitis B) and had several treatments, but this time his body could not go on any further.

We will remember him as a sweet, smiling, active boy who always said « I am fine« , who was a great cook and a photographer who liked to take photos of working people, colourful cloths and jewelry.

Here are some of his best photos….. More of his photos will follow, and through his photos Sonu will stay alive!

Volunteer photography trainer Erika also shared her memories of Sonu with us: http://erikasomogyi.blogspot.com/2009/04/i-am-continuing-to-enjoy-working-with.html
